I realize that my last post on how to send flowers to the Philippines was a little bit rambly. Lol. I'm thinking that I'll clean it up by posting a series of posts, which talk about sending flowers to the Philippines, from the preliminary steps of finding out the recipient's address, to the later ones, such as receiving confirmation when the flowers are in fact delivered, and the stuff in between, as well as the stuff before and after. I'm thinking that maybe I'll try to tackle it using a question and answer framework. But before I get around to writing that series of posts, I'll do a bit more reading and checking in order to get a better sense of the current state of international flower delivery (and local as well), with respect to the Philippines.
In this post, I was thinking that instead of focusing on how to send flowers to the Philippines (the how), I'll take a quick look at the question of why someone should bother to send flowers to the Philippines at all (the why). For this particular post, I'll be looking at this question from the point of view of the Philippine national who finds himself or herself working in a different country, and basically spending most, if not the entire year away from the Philippines. Now, let's say that person has family back home. Let's make our hypothetical worker a guy, and let's pretend that he has a wife, and two kids back home, a son and a daughter, just to keep this illustration simple. Now the question would be, why bother to send flowers to the Philippines at all?
Now at first glance, that question would seem to have a pretty straightforward answer. Why, of course he should send flowers back home. After all, it's part of showing his family that he continues to think about them and cares for them, even while he has to work on a distant shore. And of course, that answer is correct. But there are other factors which need to be taken into consideration, of course. Now, let's say that he went abroad to work because he wanted to have a much larger income so that he could save up for some of the basic expenses of the family. Let's say, a house, maybe a vehicle of some sort, and especially tuition so he can send his little ones to good schools, so that they'll have a better chance at a brighter future.
Now, if these are the things going through his mind, he won't be asking himself how to send flowers to the Philippines. No. He'll be asking himself how he can send money to the Philippines, because his goal is precisely to spend as little as possible on the non-essentials, in order to save up for the big ticket items, and the expenses that count the most.
